When I was growing up my mom always got a Mary Engelbreit calendar every year. Each month there was a cute quote to go with the picture and being a typical little girl and loving everything my mom loved, I would take her old calendars at the end of the year and put my favorite pictures and quotes from it around my room. One positive attitude quote that I had up for the longest time was:
“Happiness doesn’t depend on what happens on the outside of you
but what happens on the inside”
My parents were always amazing examples of positive thinking and my childhood memories are so fun more because of the spirit in which my parents did everything and not specifically what we did.
Attitude is so important and the attitude of the parents in the family truly do color the lot! I remember sometimes getting up as a child to my dad singing little ditties as my mom made breakfast. What an awesome way to wake up as a kid. Those morning always started the day of happy and right!
I was recently reading an amazing article entitled, Living the Abundant Life, by Thomas Monson. The article gave three ways in which we could live a more abundant life and the first way was to have a positive attitude. He quoted Charles Swindoll—author, educator, and Christian pastor— who said:
“Attitude, to me, is more important than … the past, … than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company, a church, a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.”
So my challenge is to choose today to have a positive attitude! We all give off an atmosphere that affects those around us. How much happier our families would be if we always leaked happiness to each of them?!
