I try to be a sneaky mom when it comes to food. I once heard of a mom who would tell her kids that they couldn’t eat their broccoli until they finished their dinner and they grew up thinking broccoli was a real treat….I’m not that sneaky, but I do love hiding healthy things in my kids food. Now that it’s getting pretty hot here in Arizona, my little guy’s favorite treat is popsicles. When he saw our popsicle molds and started jumping up and down and yelling “Popsicles”, I couldn’t help but indulge in some mommy-son fun! Since we are in the middle of following a strict potty training for boys, we are full of sweets for as rewards. I’m not about to lie and say there hasn’t been an overload of reward candy the past few weeks. (A mom’s gotta do what a mom’s gotta do!) But I thought that maybe I could pull out my sneaky side and make this treat healthy.  :)

Here’s our little made up recipe:

  • 1 cut up mango
  • 1 cup of fresh pineapple
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1/4 cup apple juice

We threw all of the ingredients in the blender and poured them in our popsicle molds.  (We also made one popsicle out of yogurt which was pretty yummy too.)  The hardest part was waiting a few hours for them to freeze.  B kept opening the freezer to check on them, but when they were finally frozen it was like Christmas.  I think some thing about helping to make it makes it taste even better.  Just look at this little guy….

And he doesn’t have any idea that he’s pretty much just eating fruit!  Sneaky Mom I am!  And yes, he is only wearing underwear (potty-training).  I guess I’m sneaky and embarrassing.

Have fun popsicle-making!
